RF Sampling 4-GSPS ADC Reference Design with 8-GHz DC-Coupled Differential Amplifier
TIDA-00431: Wideband radio frequency (RF) receivers allow greatly increased flexibility in radio designs. The wide instantaneous bandwidth allows flexible tuning without changing hardware and the ability to capture multiple channels at widely separated frequencies. This reference design describes a wideband RF receiver utilizing a 4-GSPS analog-to-digital converter (ADC), with an 8-GHz, DC-coupled, fully differential amplifier front end. The amplifier front end provides signal gain and allows capture of signals down to DC, which is not possible with a balun-coupled input.
Backlight and Smart Lighting Control by Ambient Light and Proximity Sensor Reference Design
TIDA-00373: This system conserves power and extends backlight life by dynamically adjusting the backlight brightness relative to the environment's ambient light. A capacitive proximity sensor wakes up the system when a user is close to save even more power. This reference design uses the HDC1000. This reference design can also be used with the HDC1008. Capacitive-Based Human Proximity Detection for System Wake-Up & Interrupt Reference Design
TIDA-00220: This TI Design uses Texas Instruments' capacitive-to-digital converter technology to provide a high-precision method to wake up systems when human interaction occurs. TIDA-00220 demonstrates techniques for alternative sensor design, environmental compensation, and electromagnetic interference protection.
Synchronization of JESD204B Giga-Sample ADCs using Xilinx Platform for Phased Array Radar Systems
TIDA-00432: This system level design shows how two ADC12J4000 evaluation modules (EVMs) can be synchronized together using a Xilinx VC707 platform. The design document describes the required hardware modifications and device configurations, including the clocking scheme. Example configuration files are shown for each EVM. The FPGA firmware is described and the relevant Xilinx IP block configuration parameters are shown. Data taken on the actual hardware is shown and analyzed, showing synchronization within 50 ps without characterized cables or calibrated propagation delays.
Contactless AC-Current Sensing Using a Hall Effect Sensor
TIDA-00218: This TI Design uses Texas Instruments' Hall sensing technology to provide a solution for knowing how much AC current is flowing through a wire without any physical intervention. TIDA-00218 implements a flux concentrator to concentrate the flux around the AC current-carrying wire, rather than letting it escape in air, and then directing that flux to a hall sensor.
Analog Front End for Motor Electronic Overload Relays with Enhanced Current Range
TIDA-00191: This reference design is the analog front end (AFE) for an electronic overload relay, used for monitoring and protecting motors from overcurrent or undercurrent events. It is an ideal tool for developers creating overload relays for sensitive AC motors in industrial applications. This programmable gain amplifier (PGA) based analog front end is intended to be an easy evaluation platform for an accurate, industry-leading 10:1 full load ampere (FLA) range and is repeatable over a -10 to +70°C temperature range.
Zero drift PGA based Analog Front End Design for Circuit Breakers (ACB/MCCB-ETU)
TIDA-00130: This reference design is intended for use in molded case circuit breakers (MCCB) electronic trip units. The programmable gain amplifier based design acts as the current monitoring for over-current earth fault relays. Utilizing a zero drift programmable amplifier, this design provides a ±10 % pick-up (A) accuracy and time delay (s) accuracy of 0 to -20%. Additionally, this solution was designed to handle harsh environment conditions by including features such as ambient insensitivity from -10 to 70 ⁰C and high electromagnetic immunity. Finally the analog front end of this design interfaces seemlessly with the TI MSP430 MCU for quicker evaluation and faster time-to-market.
UART to Wi-Fi Bridge with 24 VAC Power Reference Design
TIDA-00375: The TIDA-00375 TI Design uses Texas Instruments SimpleLink Wi-Fi CC3200 Internet-on-a-chip Wireless MCU module to create a data bridge between existing hardware with a logic-level UART interface and a Wi-Fi network. The design also contains a Simple Switcher power supply with a wide input range suitable for 24 volt HVAC systems. The UART interface has buffers to allow this design to interface with equipment that has logic levels between 3.3 volts and 5 volts.
Schematic and Layout Recommendations for the Giga Sample Per Second (GSPS) ADC
TIDA-00071: This reference design is a guide to the schematics and layout for the system designer using a GSPS ADC in their system. Use this reference design along with the datasheet — the datasheet is always the final authority. Also, the ADC1xDxxxx(RF)RB Reference Board provides a useful reference design. All design source files for the Reference Board as well as the CAD/CAE symbols for the ADC are available on the product web page or TI-Designs for download. For the purpose of this document, ADC or GSPS ADC refers to the ADC12D1800RF, ADC12D1600RF, ADC12D1000RF, ADC12D800RF, ADC12D500RF, ADC12D1800, ADC12D1600, ADC12D1000, ADC10D1500, ADC10D1000, ADC12D1600QML, and ADC10D1000QML.
Clocking Solution Reference Design for GSPS ADCs
TIDA-00359: Low cost, high performance clocking solution for GSPS data converters. This reference design discusses the use of a TRF3765, a low noise frequency synthesizer, generating the sampling clock for a 4 GSPS analog-to-digital converter (ADC12J4000). Experiments demonstrate data sheet comparable SNR and SFDR performance.
Dual Sensor Measurement Using Single Current-Loop with FSK Modulation Reference Design
TIDA-00483: The TIDA-00483 reference design brings together several devices to create a subsystem capable of measuring the surrounding environment and communicating the temperature, humidity, and ambient light over a 4- to 20-mA current loop. The small foot print of the design contains all sensors, filters, and control circuitry to calculate and communicate the sensor data. The reference design is intended for process measurement applications in factory automation, field transmitters, and building automation. The sensors, MCU, and communication modules all run off power from the current loop, which requires less than 3.5 mA to achieve. This power configuration allows the rest of the current to be dynamically adjustable for the 4- to 20-mA loop communication protocol standard.
JESD204B Link Latency Design Using a High Speed ADC
TIDA-00153: JESD204B links are the latest trend in data-converter digital interfaces. These links take advantage of high-speed serial-digital technology to offer many compelling benefits including improved channel densities. This reference design addresses one of the challenges of adopting the new interface: understanding and designing the link latency. An example achieves deterministic latency and determines the link latency of a system containing the Texas Instruments LM97937 ADC and Xilinx Kintex 7 FPGA.
Touch on Metal Buttons With Integrated Haptic Feedback Reference Design
TIDA-00314: This TI Design uses Texas Instruments' inductance-to-digital converter technology to provide a high-precision method to sense button presses on a metal surface and TI's Haptic Drivers provide high quality haptics feedback to the user. TIDA-00314 demonstrates techniques for system design, environmental compensation, and electromagnetic interference protection. Watch a TIDA-00314 Overview video on the Touch on Metal Buttons With Integrated Haptic Feedback NOW.
