Extending Rail-to-Rail Output Range for Fully Differential Amplifiers to Include True Zero Volts
TIDA-00187: Operational amplifiers (op amps) have been used for decades in signal conditioning circuits and measurement systems. An op amp that has an output spanning from negative to positive supply rail are generally referred to as rail-to-rail output (RRO) op amps. These devices have been used increasingly in portable systems to drive analog to digital converters (ADCs) where reducing power consumption while not sacrificing converter dynamic range is a key concern. While the task calls for the lowest power RRO op amps, circuit designers are finding out that rail-to-rail doesn’t exactly mean rail-to-rail. In reality the output is limited to a couple hundred millivolts within the rail depending on the loading. This problem is known as headroom and is the result of the RRO architecture. This application report focuses on using a low power RRO fully differential op amp (THS4531A) and low noise negative bias generator (LM7705) to achieve true zero volts in a ground referenced single supply system.
Power Line Communications (PLC) System-on-Module for ARIB Frequency Band
TIDM-SOMPLC-F28M35: The SOMPLC-F28M35 is a single-board System on Module(SOM) for PLC in the ARIB frequency band. This single hardware design supports several popular PLC industry standards including G3 and IEEE-1901.2. TI's certified PLC software is available along with the SOMPLC-F28M35. Engineers can take the SOM design and integrate it into their overall system board or keep the design as an add-on board to their application. The only additional hardware required is the AC mains line coupling circuitry. The included hardware schematics and Gerber files simplify the task for engineers to add PLC to their end system. OEMs will benefit from having the ability to rapidly evaluate and prototype Power Line Communications technology in their application.
Optimizing LMH6554 to Drive High Speed ADCs
TIDA-00092: This reference design shows the ability of the high-speed amplifier, LMH6554, to perform single-ended to differential conversion to drive high-speed analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) while maintaining excellent noise and distortion performance. Performance versus input frequency is shown for both AC and DC coupled applications while interfaced to the ADS4449 quad, 250-MSPS, 14-bit ADC. Various options for common-mode voltages, power supplies, and interfaces are discussed and measured to meet the requirements of a variety of applications. Anti-aliasing filter examples are shown along with the performance improvements that they provide.
JESD204B Link Latency Design Using a High Speed ADC
TIDA-00153: JESD204B links are the latest trend in data-converter digital interfaces. These links take advantage of high-speed serial-digital technology to offer many compelling benefits including improved channel densities. This reference design addresses one of the challenges of adopting the new interface: understanding and designing the link latency. An example achieves deterministic latency and determines the link latency of a system containing the Texas Instruments LM97937 ADC and Xilinx Kintex 7 FPGA.
