RF Sampling 4-GSPS ADC Reference Design with 8-GHz DC-Coupled Differential Amplifier
TIDA-00431: Wideband radio frequency (RF) receivers allow greatly increased flexibility in radio designs. The wide instantaneous bandwidth allows flexible tuning without changing hardware and the ability to capture multiple channels at widely separated frequencies. This reference design describes a wideband RF receiver utilizing a 4-GSPS analog-to-digital converter (ADC), with an 8-GHz, DC-coupled, fully differential amplifier front end. The amplifier front end provides signal gain and allows capture of signals down to DC, which is not possible with a balun-coupled input.

The integrator uses a precision amplifier with very low offset and temperature drift. Two configurations of the integrator are shown; one for precision measurement with less than 3O phase error and the other for fast response time (<15ms RC). While the output signal is bipolar, optional level shifting stage can be used when unipolar output is required.

TIDA-00835: The TIDA-00835 reference design allows for accurate voltage and current measurement using a bipolar input configuration by incorporating a four- channel, 24-bit simultaneously-sampling differential input Delta-Sigma ADC over wide dynamic range. The ADC is configured to measure ±2.5 V bipolar input. The inputs are scaled to ADC measurement range of ±2.5V using a fixed gain amplifier. This AFE chains two ADCs together using a common external clock to expand the number of input channels to eight while simultaneously sampling all of the input channels. By having more measurement channels per module, overall system cost is reduced.

TIDA-00661: The TIDA-00661 reference design features signal processing front-end subsystem for electronic trip units (ETU) used in air circuit breakers (ACB) or molded case circuit breakers (MCCB). This subsystem consists of Delta-Sigma ADC with 24-Bit resolution and fast startup (< 3ms), ±2.5V regulator, FRAM-based microcontroller (MCU) for interfacing to ADC and processing the inputs. The subsystem is designed to start-up, compute full-cycle RMS current, make decisions, and provide trip signal to the solenoid within 30 ms.
