System Level Power Reference Design for A13 Automotive Wireless Charger Transmitter
PMP10709: PMP10709 is a system optimized 50 W power designs for A13 Wireless Charger Transmitter used in automotive system. The design has various front end automotive protections such as Load dump through TVS (ISO pulse testing), Reverse Voltage (Through PFET’s body diode), Battery Disconnect Switch with OVP protection (PFET). PMP10709 is primarily four Switch synchronous Buck – Boost design, which supports wide Input voltage range (7V-20V) and delivers any output from 1V-10V based on DAC output of the A13 Wireless Charger. The DAC output changes from 1V to 3.3V which in turn changes the output voltage from 10V to 1V (on the fly) as needed by the algorithm of A13 wireless charger’s transmitter. This design utilizes best in Class Synchronous four Switch Buck Boost Controller LM5175. The design accepts an input voltage of 7Vin to 20Vin and provides the output of 1V- 10V@5 A. Output current never exceeds 5A to protect the charging Coil. The average current regulation loop of the IC at the output is used for this protection.

PMP9640: High efficiency, high power factor and reliable power supply are the main focus of the PMP9640 design for motor driver applications. Low cost analog transition mode (TM) PFC controller UCC28051 has been used for bridgeless PFC as the first conversion stage of the PMP9640. LLC series resonant converter (SRC) with UCC25600 is applied as the second stage of the PMP9640. In addition, a high-side buck converter with UCC28710 is applied here as the bias supply. In this design, bridgeless PFC efficiency can go up to 98.5%.

Small Wireless Power Transmitter for Low Power Wearable Applications
TIDA-00334: TI design TIDA-00334 wireless power supply transmitter is an application of the bq500212A IC in a small form factor design targeted at low power wearable devices. Input voltage to the unit is 5V from a Micro USB connector. The low power design will support output power at the receiver up to 2.5W. All key transmitter circuits are laid out in a 30mm area which matches the diameter the Wurth coil P/N 760308101103. This area is slightly larger than a US Quarter or 2 Euro coin. PCB is 38mm X 76mm (1.5” X 3.0”) but area for the circuit is inside the 30mm coil diameter is about 700mm2.

PMP8920: Low EMI, high efficiency, high power factor and reliable power supply are main focus of the PMP8920 design for telecom applications. Transient mode (TM) power factor correction (PFC) with UCC28051 and LLC series resonant converter (SRC) with UCC25600 are applied in PMP8911. In addition, synchronous rectifier (SR) IC UCC24610 is applied to LLC output rectifier stage. Low EMI is expected with zero voltage switching on TM-PFC and LLC-SRC switches. An overall 91% efficiency is achieved at 100W full load. In addition, several protections are embedded into this design which includes input under-voltage protection, input over-voltage protection, output over-voltage protection, and output hic-cup over-power protection.

PMP8973: The PMP8973 reference design generates a 3.3V/15A output from an 18V to 60V telecom input. The UCC2897A controls an active clamp forward converter power stage. The low gate charge and low RDSon of the CSD16415Q5 and CSD18502Q5B, implemented as synchronous rectifiers, provides for a highly efficient design. This design is laid out in a standard eighth brick footprint and achieves peak efficiencies over 92%. It includes remote sensing of the output voltage.

230V, 900W, Power Factor Regulator Conv (PFC) for Inverter Fed Drives in Appliances Reference Design
TIDA-00443: TIDA-00443 is a 900W power factor regulator converter designed for inverter fed BLDC/PMSM motor based appliances. This reference design is a continuous conduction mode boost converter implemented using UCC28180 PFC controller and with all the necessary protections built-in. The design supports a wide AC input range from 195 VAC to 270 VAC and offers very high efficiency of >97%, over wide operating loads from 50% to 100%. The boost follower configuration utilized in TIDA-00443 aids in reducing switching losses in the PFC regulator as well as in downstream inverter/converter. This reference design delivers an efficiency of ~98%, in boost follower configuration. In comparison to fixed voltage operation, this boost follower configuration saves an additional power of 5.2 W at 230 VAC and full load. TIDA-00443 has been designed to meet the IEC-61000-2-3 iTHD limits of both Class A and Class D norms. In addition the design improves overall system performance with lower bus ripple, lower bus capacitance, lower RMS currents, and built-in front end protections. Hardware is designed and tested to pass conducted emissions, surge, and EFT as per EN55014 requirements for household appliances.

PMP10804: This reference design implements the UCC28630 PSR controller in a flyback power supply. The UCC28630 is capable of operating in both Continuous and Discontinuous Conduction Modes which enables high efficiency while reducing inductor size and cost. Safety standards such as EN60950 require that any X-capacitors in EMC filters on the AC side of the bridge rectifier quickly discharge to a safe level when AC is disconnected. Typically, this requirement is achieved by including a resistive discharge element in parallel with the X-capacitor. However, this resistance causes a continuous power dissipation that impacts the standby power performance. In order to reduce standby power and eliminate the standing loss associated with the conventional discharge resistors, the UCC28630 device incorporates active X-capacitor discharge circuitry. In this design, less than 100mW no load power comsumption and over 88% converter efficiency is achieved.
Low-Line Wide Input LLC Resonant Conv for Consumer Electronics (12V@10A) Reference Design
PMP8762: The PMP8762 reference design provides a 12V/10A output from a low line-input voltage (100Vac to 132Vac) with a single LLC resonant converter stage. This design is featured with its low circuit cost, low electromagnetic interference (both conduction and radiation), and high efficiency (over 87% @ full load). This design uses the UCC25600 resonant converter controller along with UCC27702 high side gate driver to control the LLC resonant converter.

PMP6013: This reference design provides a high-brightness LED driver based on the TPS92310 configured as a power factor corrected flyback regulator that is triac dimmable. It is designed to operate with an input voltage in the range of 90VAC to 135VAC with a 120VAC nominal input voltage. The elimination of optocoupler using PSR topology promises higher reliability and lower system cost. The design achieves less than 50mW standby power losses and over 86% efficiency at 25% load. PMP5141: The PMP5141 reference design provides a 24V/10A output with power factor correction from a universal AC input voltage range. This design uses the UCC28051 to control the front end PFC boost stage. The output of the PFC is followed by a UCC25600 LLC resonant half-bridge. The total efficieny, from input to output is over 92% from a 220VAC/50Hz input and over 90% from a 120VAC/60Hz input.
Multi-Cell Battery Manager Unit with Integrated Charging, Gauging, Authentication and Protection
TIDA-00553: The Texas Instruments bq40z60 device is a Battery Pack Manager that integrates battery charging control output, gas gauging, and protection for completely autonomous operation of 2-series to 4-series cell Li-Ion and Li-Polymer battery packs. The architecture enables internal communication between the fuel gauging processor and battery charger controller to optimize the charging profile based on the external load conditions and power path source management during load transients and adaptor current limitations in the system. The charging current efficiency is scalable for power transfer based on the external components, such as the NFETs, inductor, and sensing resistor.
